Certain fine-grained soils with a high sodium content are highly susceptible to erosion by the water flowing through them.

During the dispersibility test the flow of water through a cavity in the soil under a high hydraulic gradient is reproduced.

The apparatus consists of a cylindrical container equipped at its ends with water inlet/outlet connectors, tube with graduated scale, base support with rod.
