Motorized Casagrande scoop

Reference: SU173
Standards: ASTM D4318 | AASHTO T89 | BS 1377:2 | UNE 7377

The Casagrande spoon method is used as an alternative to the cone penetrometer to determine the moisture content at which clay soils transition from a plastic state to a solid state (Liquid Limit).

They evaluate the relationship between the moisture percentage of soil samples and the number of blows required to close a furrow made in the soil; therefore, they determine when soil clays change from a plastic state to a liquid state.

The device consists of a removable bronze spoon that drops into a hard rubber base via a cam-operated system and a stroke counter. It is motorized.
